Do-In: A foundation for Shiatsu

Do-In: A foundation for Shiatsu

Do-In: A foundation for Shiatsu

This atelier of Do-In gives a good idea of the sensitivity that is at the heart of Iokai Shiatsu. It is easy-to-access, risk-free practice that is suitable for everyone.

In the development of oriental manual therapy one can distinguish Do-In as a practice in which shiatsu has its roots. In the lineage of Iokai Shiatsu, from its founder Shizuto Masunaga to Kazunori Sasaki, founder and director of the European Iokai Shiatsu Association, to care for the spirit and the body by practicing Do-In is a foundation for the shiatsu practice. Foundation in this context doesn’t mean rudimentary but something absolutely necessary for a rich evolution of this holistic manual approach.

Do: generally indicates to open the passages by stimulating the body/mind with movements, percussion, pressure or friction to promote the circulation of vital Ki

In: indicates to move, stretch and extend the trunk, limbs and joints with this same objective

One could thus say that one goal of the practice is to release tensions which hinder the propagation of Ki through all the joints and the meridians. But the Do-In exercises also involves experiencing the movement of Ki throughout the body/mind, which becomes habitual through repetition, when the breathing that accompanies it becomes natural.

Touch as well as the mobilization of joints is also at the heart of Shiatsu and involves the communication of Ki. While, through the practice of Do-In, we become more relaxed and we better develop our bodily capacities and self-perception, we become more sensitive to the passage of Ki and empathetic in the shiatsu practice.
